Kamares ware pyxis with shells

This Pyxis (an ancient Greek jewelry box) is inspired by the so-called Kamares Ware. The Kamares cave – hence the name Kamares ware – near Phaistos, discovered in 1864, is the location of an ancient Minoan archaeological site on Crete, and some of the best examples of Middle Minoan pottery have been found there. Kamares ware is characterized by light-on-dark abstract and floral patterns and elegant shapes. The fast-spinning potter’s wheel, a new invention during the Middle Minoan era, was used to craft these shapes, and the painted decoration is particularly labor-intensive, requiring a dark background color, usually black, on which white and sometimes red and orange colors were added. The overall effect of Kamares ware is not just a pretty pot, but an object that is a wonder to behold – at once inventive, delicate, and full of movement and charm. This Pyxis can be used as a jewelry case or to store personal items, and it makes a great gift for yourself or your beloved ones.
It is handmade and hand-painted in Greece using traditional techniques and ecological colors.
