Kamares ware Pyxis with Minoan lilies

In the Ancient Greek world, pyxises were clay boxes used to hold jewelry and personal items. Most of them were conical in shape, with or without a handle on top. The shape and decoration of pyxises were inspired by everyday activities and nature.
Lilies were among the most beloved themes used for decoration: they can be found on murals in Knossos and Santorini as well as at gold pieces of jewelry. White lilies symbolized the symmetry of divine creation and mankind’s desire for perfection.
This jewelry box is inspired by the murals of the Knossos palace and can be used to store jewelry or personal items. It is handmade and hand-painted in Greece using traditional techniques and ecological colors.
