One of the most beautiful types of jars from the Minoan Age was discovered at the Palace of Phaistos and is now displayed at the Heraklion Archaeological Museum in Crete. Dating back to 1900-1700 BC, this vase belongs to the colorful Kamares ware, named after the cave where they were first discovered. They were made in the potteries of the Knossos and Phaistos palace complexes and were exported throughout the entire eastern Mediterranean and Egypt. These jars were typically decorated with complex curvilinear designs inspired by the natural world and filled with imagination.
