Kamares ware Pyxis with a moving shell

Kamares ware pyxis with a moving shell. This pyxis is inspired by the Kamares ware. The Kamares cave was discovered in 1864 near the location of the ancient Minoan palace of Phaistos. During the excavations, some of the best examples of middle Minoan pottery unearthed. These items are called today the Kamares ware. Kamares ware is characterized by light-on-dark abstract and floral patterns and elegant shapes. A fast-spinning potter’s wheel, a new invention of that era, was used to craft these shapes. The painted decoration is particularly labor-intensive, requiring a dark background color, usually black, on which white and sometimes red and orange colors were added. The overall effect of Kamares ware is not just a pretty pot, but an object that is a wonder to behold – at once inventive, delicate, and full of movement and charm.
This Pyxis can be used as a jewelry case or to store personal items, and it makes a great gift for yourself or your beloved ones.
It is handmade and hand-painted in Greece using traditional techniques and ecological colors.
