Kamares ware Rhyton
This ancient Greek Kamares-style rhyton with complex polychrome decoration originates from the Festos Palace in Crete. The rhyton was used during religious ceremonies to carry offerings for the gods and is part of the most beautiful pottery of the Minoan era (2700-1450 B.C.), the colorful “Kamares” wares. These wares were named after the Kamares cave where they were first discovered and were made in the potteries of the Knossos and Phaistos palace complexes. Kamares wares were usually decorated with complex curvilinear designs inspired by the natural world and were exported across the entire eastern Mediterranean and Egypt.
