Vessel fragment Apollo

This fragment was discovered in the place where the Archaeological Museum of Delphi, Greece, was later built. It’s part of a drinking cup (kylix) and depicts a typical representation of Apollo, god of light and music, on a white background. The god is depicted wearing a white chiton (a type of robe) fastened with brooches at the shoulders while a red cloak covers the lower part of his body. His long hair is tied back, and he is wearing a crown of myrtle leaves. He is offering a libation with his right hand, pouring wine from a bottle, while he holds a lyre with seven chords, fashioned from a tortoise shell in his left. A black bird watches the scene, perhaps a crow: it is probably a reference to the myth of Koronida, a princess that Apollo loved. A unique sample of the pottery artwork of the Classical Period.
