Tanagrea Figurine with fan

Tanagrea, the small terracotta figures dating primarily from the 3rd century B.C. are named after the site Tanagra in east-central Greece, where they were found.
Well-dressed young women in various positions, usually standing, are the main subject matter of the statuettes. On their discovery in the 19th century, they became enormously popular, and copies were extensively and expertly forged and even painted in a similar fashion.
