Attic geometric cup, Athens

Despite the limited and challenging surface area of the cup, the artist has skillfully painted decorative motifs that combine strictness and simplicity with imaginative creativity to enhance the clear and juicy shape of the vessel. In a wide, vertically divided zone with many unequal perpendicular zones, linear decorative motifs such as rhombs and abacuses are rhythmically repeated, filling the surface of the cup. Each motif maintains independence but also contributes to the harmony of the whole, like notes in a musical composition.

Handmade and painted, museum-quality artwork replica.
