Vessel fragment God Dionissos
This fragment is from the famous “Amphora of Munich,” an Attic red-figure vase attributed to the ancient artist Kleophrades. It depicts an excellent Dionysian presentation: The god Dionysus, dressed in fine clothing and wearing an ivy wreath, is in the middle of the main side and heading to the right while looking back. He is also holding a kantharos (a type of drinking cup) and a grapevine, both symbols of his domain. Without a doubt, it is a masterpiece of ancient Greek pottery.
